Bag of keys found at park connected to double slaying at Cleveland car dealership

Michael Kuznik, 47, and Trina Tomola, 46, were killed at their car dealership, Mr. Cars Auto Sales.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Investigators linked a bag of keys found at a park to the double slaying of a couple who owned a car dealership on the city's East Side.

The keys were found Friday at Humphrey Park, about two miles from Mr. Car Sales, where owners Michael Kuznik and Trina Tomola were fatally shot.

Cleveland police said on Monday that investigators determined the keys were stolen from the dealership.

The bag and keys are being examined to see if any fingerprints or DNA will help lead police to the killers, Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said.

Surveillance equipment, computers containing records of car sales and two cars were stolen from the lot.

One of those cars -- a 2006 BMW 528I-- was found by police Thursday parked in the 3300 block of West 48th Street[1], between Storer and Clark avenues. Detectives searched the car and found nothing significant, police said on Monday.

Police are still searching for a 2006 blue Mercedes SL.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Kuznik, 47, and Tomola, 46, were found dead April 14 of gunshot wounds to the back of their heads. Their 19-year-old son found them inside the building on East 185th Street.

Police said the shooting happened between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The family dog, Axel,[2] may have bitten one of the assailants, police said. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner is examining the dog in the hopes it might provide clues, including the DNA of one of the assailants.

Kuznik was found dead near his desk and Tomola near a back door. Police believe she was trying to run from the dealership during the robbery.

Investigators said they believe the business was targeted and that the killers may have had inside knowledge of the business.
