This is the astonishing moment a biker cheats death after coming off his motorcycle at high speed on a Portuguese motorway - and landing on the back of a car.

The leather-clad man was filmed clinging onto the vehicle - its rear window smashed from the collision - as the vehicle slowed down and pulled over on the hard shoulder so he could get off his makeshift cushion.

Local reports said he escaped uninjured, although his Suzuki motorbike wasn't so lucky and ended up in pieces on the tarmac.

The incredible incident happened at the weekend on the A28 by a service station close to the northern Portuguese town of Vila do Conde.

The stunning footage was taken by one of the biker friends of the motorcyclist, who alerted the driver he had a man riding on the back of his car after the smash.

His motorbike was filmed flying through the air out of control before hitting a motorway crash barrier.

It wasn't immediately clear where the biker had gone before a friend drew alongside the vehicle and videoed him with the camera on his helmet holding onto the back with his left knee poking through the smashed glass.

It is thought the motorcyclist made his potentially fatal miscalculation and hit the back of the vehicle after becoming distracted before it cushioned his fall.

He was able to get down by himself when the car came to a stop.

One, referring to the popular American action film series, said: 'This man has been watching too much Fast and the Furious.

Last year a man was filmed cheating death in Goias, south-central Brazil, after being flung several feet into the air out of the open window of a van.

He suffered injuries including a broken leg but relatives said afterwards his life was not in danger.

The driver of the van who lost control of his vehicle and overturned several times before ending up on a grass verge was miraculously unhurt in the drama.

He was made to take a breath test after being drive n from the scene by police which showed he had been drinking but wasn't over the limit.

Humberto de Oliveira, who was travelling on the same road, recorded the smash with a camera fixed to his dashboard.

It showed the unnamed passenger in the van being flown high into the air above the vehicle like a missile as it rolled over nearly ten times at speed as the driver lost control whilst trying to overtake.
