Visitors to a McDonald's got more than they bargained for after a police car was spotted with a very unusual plant sitting on the dashboard.

Facebook user Jayme Pakoti posted images of a police car with a strange-looking herb that closely resembled a marijuana plant inside of it in Napier, New Zealand[4].

The image was shared to Napier News Facebook group where social media users joked that the police were stopping at the fast food restaurant because they 'had the munchies'.

The po lice car was spotted parked at a McDonald's in Napier, New Zealand with an unusual plant on the dashboard

The strange plant looks unmistakably like marijuana - but some users guessed it may be evidence that wasn't properly bagged

'Parked up next to this police car at Maccas this morning..... Notice anything strange?' Ms Pakoti wrote on the Facebook group.

'A bit of herbal remedy in there. Probably a high end air freshener,' Ian Campher wrote.

Camilla Koutsos also commented: 'Pot on the dash. That's how you get your police car broken into.'

Several users failed to notice the strange plant sitting near the dashboard, commenting on the police officer's parking instead.

Some commentators also theorised that the plant had been seized from drug-users and that police had forgotten to seal it in an evidence bag.

Jayme Pakoti posted the image to Napier News and users commented on the image, joking about police who would have the 'munchies'
